BOOK LAUNCH

The Curlew’s Eye was launched on Sept 21 at The Lucky Bat Cafe in Nightcliff, Darwin. It was a great night, thanks to all those people who came from far and near to celebrate. Special thanks to Danggalaba Elder Tibby Quall for the Welcome to Country, author Cate Kennedy who launched the book by zoom from Castlemaine, Victoria; and to Darwin playwright Mary Anne Butler who MC’d the event. Also to Lucky Bat Cafe crew who welcomed us, baking pizza and sorting technical world - huge thanks to Justin and Aneta. Thanks also to Will Tinapple for filming and live-streaming the event.

Heartfelt thanks to those who championed this story into book form — my agent Melanie Ostell; and the Allen & Unwin team — publisher Jane Palfreyman, editors Ali La Vau and Tom Bailey-Smith; and dmpcr media publicists Deb McInnes and Catherine Szentkuti.

I acknowledge the Country where I have lived and spent time during the writing of this book — Kungarakan, Rak Mak Mak Marranunggu, Warai, Larrakia/Kulumbiringin, Boong Wurrong and Ngarrindjeri.

Without all of you — deep places and the web of family, friends, neighbours, colleagues, Elders, arts organisations, publishing world and avid readers who have encouraged me over the years, I and The Curlew’s Eye would not be here. Thank you.

‘To me it’s a beautiful form of resistance to engage in making fiction for its own glorious power of making up an imaginary world…’
